Coaches with hcSynergy love the game of volleyball and want to share that love with the athletes they coach. They have all gone through an interview process and have played and/or coached in the high school, club or college level. All coaches must be cleared with a background check through the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA). We require our coaches to be certified in First Aid and Concussion, be IMPACT certified and have completed and passed the Coaching Principles course.The coaches incorporate the skills of the game and sportsmanship in the practices and game experience. They want to help develop the whole individual – mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Heather Cooper - 17s/18s
Heather has been the Club Director of hcSynergy since it began in 2008 and has coached every age group in both Premier and Power. Her volleyball career started at Pioneer High School where she played as a setter, 2 years on JV and 2 years on Varsity. During her first year at San Jose State University, she missed being part of volleyball and asked if she could assist coaching the girls’ volleyball team at Pioneer. They said yes and she hasn’t stopped since. Her coaching experience continued at Pioneer High School as well as Oak Grove where she took the last place JV to first place in their division. Not content with just coaching high school teams, Heather coached at NYC Volleyball Club and City Beach and finally started her own club. Heather is also the Volleyball Program Director for both the Girls and Boys Volleyball Program at Branham High School.

Clay Llewellyn - 17s/18s
Coach Clay started coaching started ten years ago at Zia Athletic Club in Arizona while also playing volleyball for Arizona State University. He was an assistant coach for Zia’s boys 18-1s and girls 15-2s teams.
Prior to college, Coach Clay played two seasons of varsity volleyball at Mountain Ridge High School as a middle blocker and outside hitter. He played four years at Arizona State University as an opposite/right side hitter and as a setter.
In May of last year Clay took a position at a Bay Area property management firm which is where he spends most of his. During his off hours, Coach Clay enjoys watching professional sports (I will openly root against Bay Area teams), playing volleyball and have travelling a bit more. He is looking forward to a great season ahead with hcSynergy!
This will be Clay's 2nd year coaching at HcSynergy.
Brenda Calara - 17s/18s
Brenda is starting her 5th season with hcSynergy! She played at Piedmont Hills High School from 2005-2009 and continued to play at Ohlone College from 2009- 2012 as a Middle Blocker. She likes to watch athletes go on to do bigger and better things and share the love of the game. With hcSynergy, Brenda has coached 13 Black (13-1) and 16 Teal (16-3), 16 Grey (16-1) and 17 Black. Her previous coaching experience consists of: Sierramont Middle School Boys and Girls (2009-2014), Piedmont Hills JV Girls Head Coach (2014 to Present) and assisted Varsity (2014 to Present). Also assisted with Branham HS boys volleyball (2014 to Present).
Brenda is also a student at De Anza studying Biology and would like to become a high school teacher.

Nick Rovetto - 16s
Nick has more than 10 years of coaching experience including work as an assistant with the US Men’s and Women’s National teams as well as the USAV High Performance Program. He has taught various city-organized volleyball classes for both adults and children throughout the South Bay and has acted as an assistant on various collegiate teams. In the 2015-16 club season, his 14 Power team had the highest jump of any NCVA team, moving from 77th to 29th, and his 15 Power team finished 1st at Far Westerns and qualified for the Girls’ Junior National Championship. Nick strives to coach players to compete at the next level and strongly believes that a large portion of success within the sport comes down to two key components: attitude and composure.
As a player, Nick played briefly with Santa Clara University’s Men’s Club team, which ranked 5th in the nation, and continues to play USAV at the BB/A level. In June of 2014, he graduated from Santa Clara University with degrees in Psychology, Communication, and Political Science. He currently works with the San Jose Police Department.

Katie Keller - 16s
Coach Kaitlyn, also known as Coach Katie, started playing volleyball in 2011 as a right side and setter. She found a love for volleyball when she played in Middle School PE Class and realized she was a natural!
Coach Katie has coached for Del Mar High School, Tropical Touch Volleyball Club, Saint Andrews, and Campbell Middle School. She is currently going to De Anza College and is the starting Setter on the college volleyball team.
During her down time, when she has any, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing volleyball and doing things with friends. What she loves most about coaching is being able to see a difference in the girls from the start of the season to the end.
Coach Katie's goals for this season is to help our athletes develop their skills to get them to that higher level. This will be Katie's 2nd year coaching with HcSynergy.
Natalie Hinson - 16s
Natalie is back to coach her 4th season with HcSynergy! Last year her 16s team finished 2nd overall out of 146 teams.
Natalie grew up playing volleyball and played club volleyball for 6 years as a libro. She finished her club career playing for Heather Cooper at HcSynergy and won the coaches award that year. She is passionate about volleyball and teaching others to love the game as much as she does. Natalie is excited for the upcoming season!
In June of 2015, she graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Business Administration. She currently works in the HR Department at ServiceNow. During her free time, she enjoys baking, being outdoors and traveling.
Brooke Smith - 16s
Coach Brooke started playing volleyball during 6th grade at Moreland Middle. She played middle for majority of her volleyball career until her junior year of high school and then switched to outside hitter. Currently Brooke is attending De Anza College and playing on the school team as an outside hitter.
Coach Brooke has assisted at Prospect High School for JV Boys and Girls Volleyball. During her free time she enjoys going on hikes, going to the beach, and watching movies.
Coach Brooke wants to improve her player’s skills in volleyball while still having fun! She hopes that all her girls walk away with a positive outlook on the season.
This will be Brooke's 2nd season coaching at HcSynergy.
Matt Siamu - 15s
Coach Matt has been coaching club for the past 5 years and have worked with all ages from 12 to 18. He is currently the girls varsity head coach at Westmont High School. He played club volleyball as a middle and an outside for Sons of Samoa in his hometown.
This will be Matt's first year coaching with HcSynergy. He looks forward to working with the girls this season.
Kasey Melo - 14s
Coach Kasey has always had a love of volleyball from an early age as he grew up playing for fun. He started his competitive volleyball career playing at Gunderson high school where he went on to be the starting setter on varsity for the four years he was there. He then continued on at University of California San Diego (UCSD) where we played one season as a setter.
Kasey also started his coaching career at Gunderson high school where he assisted the girls varsity program and coached the girls freshman team. He then continued on at University of California San Diego (UCSD) as an assistant to the girls club program for a season.
Kasey graduated from University of California San Diego (UCSD) in 2013 and is currently working at Amazon in logistics. In his spare time Kasey enjoys playing volleyball, hip hop dance, and traveling.
Jennafer Sepulveda - 14s
Coach Jenn started playing volleyball when she was in 3rd grade after finding out that her mom had played. During her volleyball career she played middle and right side both in club and at Presentation High School.
Jennafer began coaching when she was 15 by coaching middle school volleyball for 5th-8th graders at Saint Christopher’s. She was also an assistant coached at Point Break Volleyball Club coaching 14s and 18s. Jennafer took some time off to finish her education and has earned a Bachelor's degree from UC Santa Cruz and her Master's degree from Loyola Marymount University. She played intramural volleyball at UC Santa Cruz. This will be her 5th year coaching club volleyball.
During her free time, her favorite things to do other than volleyball are: reading, spending time with her dog, and sleeping. Jennafer also got married in November of this year.
Jennafer is very excited to return to HcSynergy for her 2nd year.

Sarah Hewett - 14s
Sarah Hewett has played volleyball for over 10 years. As a proud lefty, she played setter and right side for hcSynergy and she also played at Santa Teresa High School as a setter. Sarah continued playing both sand and indoor intermural volleyball at Oregon State University.
Having graduated from Oregon State with her Bachelor's Degree, she was the athletic trainer at her alma mater - Santa Teresa High School, but is now at San Jose High. This is her 2nd season coaching at hcSynergy and she is looking forward to inspiring young athletes to learn to play and love the sport of volleyball as much as she does.

Mel Baron - 13s
Coach Mel has been playing volleyball for 9 years altogether. She began her volleyball career at Liberty Baptist in 6th grade, going on to excel as a defensive specialist. Her passion and dedication to the sport secured her position as starting libero at Silver Creek High School (2012-2016). She has also helped coach at Saint Andrews and Silver Creek.
Mel is currently majoring in kinesiology at De Anza College, where she is playing her second year of college level volleyball as a defensive specialist.
This will be Mel's first season coaching at HcSynergy.
Kayla Keller - 13s
Kayla has been playing competitive volleyball for 7 years. She started playing at Vision Volleyball Club, when she was 12, and continued with Vision for 5 years. At Vision she attended Girls Junior National Championships 4 years in a row. Kayla attends Del Mar high school; and has been a starting player on varsity since her freshman year. Through her high school career she has been awarded with first team all league along with MVP of her team. Kayla has been the captain of her team since her junior year. Kayla also plays beach volleyball competitively and has won multiple tournaments. She will continue playing in college next year.
Christie Henebry - Strength and Conditioning Coach
Christie Henebry has 17 years of experience working with athletes, teams, and individuals who want to get in shape. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science and a Masters degree in Leadership, and is currently a Physical Education Teacher and Weight Training Instructor at Branham High School. She has developed and instructed a Sports Weight Training Program which combines sports specific training for each athlete with motivational tools for success in athletics and life. She has extensive experience as an athletic trainer, personal trainer, and head coach for Cross Country and Track and Field. Christie also works as a motivational speaker for coaches seeking successful programs. Christie can help you to see your dreams, create goals, and make your dreams a reality.
Maddie McLaren - Practice Coach
Maddie has been playing volleyball for 10 years altogether. She first began competing in fifth grade, and started playing club volleyball in sixth grade. She played at HcSynergy her first four years of club as a setter and middle. Then transitioned to play 3 years at city beach as a outside and right side.
She is a senior at Valley Christian High School. Freshman year she played on the JV volleyball team, then played on Varsity sophomore, junior, and is currently playing as libero for her senior year.
This is Maddie's first season coaching at HcSynergy.
Livie Buck - Practice Coach
Livie has been playing volleyball for 8 years starting in 5th grade. She first started playing in 5th grade and played at HcSynergy for 3 years as a libber, and then transitioned to City Beach and Vision for her last 2 years of club volleyball.
Livie attends Valley Christian High School, and has been on Varsity since her sophomore year, and now is a captain on the team her senior year. This will be her first year coaching at HcSynergy, and is very excited for the season ready to teach and inspire her players to be the best volleyball players they can be.
